Manuscript Critiques
You've had the idea for the book, you've spent a long time writing it and you want people to read it. Maybe your plan is to send it out to agents, maybe you want to go directly to a publishing company, or maybe you want to cut out traditional publishers and publish the book independently.
Whatever you are planning to do, a professional critique of your book is essential before you send it off or publish it on Amazon. Most publishers will only look at a book if it comes via an agent. Most agents will only want to see the first few chapters, and will then make a decision on whether to ask for the rest. For the books they don't take on, the most they are likely to send to the author is a polite ‘thanks, but no thanks’ letter, with little or no feedback. This isn't because they don't care, it's because of the sheer volume of books from would be authors they receive every day. For writers it can be frustrating to see something they've spent months or even years developing turned down in so few words.
So where can you go for more detailed feedback and support while you’re working on a book, or once you’ve completed it? There are a lot of companies that claim to offer detailed critiques of your work, and then in reality provide you with a report that's only about three pages long, often filled with standard comments telling you how much they've enjoyed reading your writing, and in some cases go no further than the first quarter of your book (but offer to do this, if you pay them a further fee). They may help you, but may just leave you feeling you've spent a lot of money for very little, and don't even get the chance to discuss the report and get any help on how you can address any of the issues they may have raised.
I offer a comprehensive reading and critique service, and provide a twenty to thirty page report covering all aspects of your writing including storyline, plots, sub-plots, characters, dialogue and narrative and story development, with prices starting at £250, for manuscripts of 125 pages or less, and £2 per page for longer work. The report covers the entire manuscript, and give you an honest, professional appraisal of your work. I also offer the option of a one-to-one session to discuss the report and what you can do to take your manuscript forward.
If you’ve not yet finished the manuscript, but want feedback on what you’ve written, I also provide twelve to fifteen page 'work in progress' reports for £130, and private tuition on specific areas of your writing for £30 an hour.
For more information or to ask for a report, just complete the form below with a brief note of what you're writing and what sort of feedback you're looking for and I'll get in touch with you.
